Injections beneath the chin
If treatment is appropriate, a clinician places small injections into the assessed fat beneath the chin. The area is marked to guide placement.
Belkyra® is a non-surgical injectable treatment designed to reduce moderate-to-severe fullness caused by fat beneath the chin. Formulated with deoxycholic acid, it works by breaking down targeted fat cells to gradually improve the appearance of a double chin and create a more defined under-chin profile. Our clinicians develop personalized treatment plans at our North Vancouver and Chilliwack locations.

Clarius® Ultrasound When Appropriate
When used as part of your assessment, ultrasound can help visualize tissue depth and nearby anatomy. It supports clinical planning but cannot remove all treatment risks.
For Moderate-to-Severe Submental Fullness
Belkyra targets submental fat and may improve its appearance in appropriate candidates.
No Surgical Incisions
Belkyra is given as injections beneath the chin, without surgical incisions. Swelling and other side effects are still possible.

How We Assess Under-Chin Fullness
Fullness beneath the chin may be related to fat, loose skin, or other anatomy. We assess the area and your health history to determine whether Belkyra may be appropriate, then discuss realistic results, recovery, risks, and other options.
Belkyra is for selected adults with moderate-to-severe fullness associated with fat beneath the chin.
Loose or sagging skin may remain after fat reduction. Belkyra does not tighten skin.
Muscle bands or other neck structures can also affect the profile. We consider these during assessment.
We discuss realistic results, possible swelling and risks, session timing, and alternatives before treatment.
Treatment Area
Belkyra® specifically targets submental fat, the fat located beneath the chin that contributes to the appearance of a double chin. It is not intended for fat reduction along the jawline or elsewhere on the face. During your consultation, your clinician will assess your anatomy to determine whether this treatment is appropriate.
Before & After
Before-and-after photos can help you understand individual treatment outcomes. Results vary, and your clinician will discuss what may be realistic for you.
Belkyra Pricing
Belkyra® treatments are available as individual sessions or a package of three. Your clinician will recommend the appropriate number of sessions based on your anatomy, treatment goals, and response.

Ultrasound-Informed Planning
When appropriate, Clarius® ultrasound may help your clinician assess tissue depth and nearby anatomy beneath the chin. It can inform planning and follow-up, but it does not replace clinical assessment or remove all risks.
Ultrasound may help your clinician assess the tissue layer beneath the chin when planning treatment.
It can support a closer look at structures around the treatment area. Your clinician also follows the product instructions for injection placement.
If needed, ultrasound may help your clinician review the area at a later visit.

Treatment Mechanism
Belkyra is injected beneath the chin and damages fat cells in the treated area. The body gradually clears those cells; visible results vary.
If treatment is appropriate, a clinician places small injections into the assessed fat beneath the chin. The area is marked to guide placement.
Belkyra contains deoxycholic acid. In the treated area, it damages fat cells, which the body gradually clears through natural inflammatory and clearance processes.
Visible changes develop over several weeks and vary by person. Belkyra reduces the appearance of submental fat; it does not tighten loose skin.
Candidacy & Alternatives
Belkyra may be suitable for some adults with moderate-to-severe fullness associated with fat beneath the chin. These points can help you prepare for a consultation; your clinician will determine candidacy after reviewing your anatomy, health history, and goals.

The Treatment Journey • What to Expect
Here is what consultation, treatment, recovery, and follow-up may involve. Your clinician will tailor the plan to your assessment.
Your clinician discusses your goals and health history and assesses the area beneath your chin. Ultrasound may be used to help evaluate tissue depth and anatomy; it cannot eliminate all risks.
If appropriate, the clinician cleans and marks the treatment area, then gives a series of small injections. Numbing or cooling may be used for comfort. The injection portion takes about 15 to 20 minutes; your full appointment is longer.
Swelling, bruising, tenderness, numbness, or firmness may occur. Swelling can be noticeable and may affect your plans; its severity and duration vary. Ask your clinician what to expect for your situation.
Results develop gradually as the body clears treated fat cells. Some patients notice improvement within several weeks, while more noticeable changes may take two to three months or longer. Your clinician will assess your progress and determine whether additional sessions are appropriate.
The number of sessions depends on your response and goals. In Canada, sessions must be at least one month apart, and up to six may be considered. Your clinician will recommend a plan and review progress with you; a particular result cannot be guaranteed.
Preparation & Aftercare
Your clinician will give you instructions based on your health history and treatment plan. Swelling, bruising, tenderness, numbness, and firmness can occur.
Tell your clinician about all prescription medicines, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and supplements. Do not stop a prescribed medicine unless the clinician who prescribed it tells you to.
Your clinician will tell you whether any preparation is needed based on your health history and treatment plan.
Swelling can be noticeable and may affect social plans. Consider scheduling when you have flexibility, and ask your clinician what recovery may look like for you.
Avoid applying heavy neck serums, colognes, or makeup to the chin area before treatment. Follow any specific skin preparation advice provided by your clinician.
Swelling, tenderness, and bruising are common after Belkyra treatment. Your clinician may recommend appropriate measures to help manage discomfort during the initial recovery period.
Follow the recovery advice your clinician provides for your individual treatment.
Ask your clinician whether or when you should touch or massage the treated area.
Temporary firmness or numbness can occur and may take time to improve. Contact your clinic if symptoms concern you or are worsening.
Frequently Asked
Answers about Belkyra for under-chin fat, treatment sessions, recovery, side effects, and cost.
Swelling beneath the chin is common and can be noticeable. You may also have bruising, pain or tenderness, numbness, redness, warmth, or firmness. More serious complications can include nerve injury that affects your smile, difficulty swallowing, skin injury, or infection. We review these risks with you before treatment and explain when to contact us or seek medical care.
Belkyra costs $350 CAD per session, or $900 CAD for a package of three sessions. The package saves $150 compared with paying for three sessions individually. At our North Vancouver and Chilliwack clinics, we assess your candidacy and discuss the recommended number and timing of sessions before treatment.
Belkyra is a prescription deoxycholic acid injection for selected adults with moderate-to-severe fullness caused by fat beneath the chin (submental fat). When injected into this area, deoxycholic acid disrupts fat-cell membranes. The resulting changes develop gradually, and your response varies.
The number of Belkyra sessions depends on your anatomy and response to treatment. If we recommend another session, it must be at least one month after the previous one; up to six sessions may be considered. We review your progress and discuss each next step with you.
There is no single recovery timeline. Swelling beneath the chin is common and may be noticeable; bruising, tenderness, numbness, warmth, and firmness can also occur. The severity and duration vary, so plan for possible swelling and ask us what to expect based on your treatment plan.
Belkyra® results develop gradually as the body clears damaged fat cells from the treated area. Some patients notice improvement within several weeks, while more noticeable changes may take two to three months or longer. Multiple sessions may be recommended depending on the amount of submental fat and individual response.
Belkyra damages fat cells in the treated area, but we cannot promise that your appearance will remain unchanged permanently. Aging, weight changes, and other factors can affect your chin and neck profile over time. We discuss realistic expectations with you during your assessment.
We may use Clarius ultrasound during your assessment to help visualize tissue depth and anatomy beneath your chin. Ultrasound can inform treatment planning, but it does not eliminate risks or replace a clinical assessment and careful injection technique. We explain which precautions apply to you before treatment.
No. Belkyra treats fullness associated with submental fat; it does not tighten loose or sagging skin. If skin laxity is your main concern, we can assess the area and discuss whether another option may better match your goals.
You may feel stinging, warmth, or aching during the injections, followed by tenderness or pain that can last for several days. We may use ice, cooling, or local anaesthetic to support your comfort. Your experience can vary.
Belkyra is a series of injections into the fat beneath your chin; under-chin liposuction is a surgical procedure. They differ in how treatment is performed, candidacy, risks, and recovery. We can assess your concern and explain which options may be appropriate for you.
